Three Sisters - Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains

Photographer: Unknown

The spectacular cliff faces such as The Three Sisters actually seemed to be an impenetrable barrier to early settlers in New South Wales.  It wasn't until 1813 that Wentworth, Blaxland and Lawson managed to cross the mountains.  A lot of the area is still inaccessible, except to skilled climbers and bushwalkers.  The blue colour apparently comes from the amount of eucalyptus oil in the air.
